Thank you for your interest in orthokeratology for yourself or your child. This page introduces how OrthoK works, its safety and suitability, our treatment plan and fees, and what's involved in giving your consent to begin treatment.
Orthokeratology, or OrthoK for short, is a vision correction technology using specially designed night-time contact lenses worn during sleep. A safe, non-surgical procedure that restores clear vision by gently reshaping the eye's surface — so you can wake up to good vision without glasses or daytime contact lenses.
Customised oxygen-permeable rigid lenses are designed to precisely fit the front surface of your eye, the cornea. As you sleep, your eyelid and the lens place gentle pressure on the cornea, moulding its shape by a pre-determined amount calculated using sophisticated 3D modelling software.
Corneal shape mapping: we use a Medmont corneal topographer to measure 102,000 individual points on your cornea, helping us design a set of OrthoK lenses that are uniquely yours.

Each lens is individually designed and personalised to your eye by our highly experienced OrthoK practitioner, Dr Philip Cheng — a Fellow of the International Academy of Orthokeratology & Myopia Control (FIAOMC), and an internationally renowned expert in myopia management. We've treated well over 2,000 patients with OrthoK lenses, from simple cases to complex high myopia with astigmatism, long-sightedness, presbyopia and post-surgery corneas.
To achieve the best results, our clinic uses fully customised, tailor-made OrthoK lenses — no two eyes are the same, so no two lenses are identical either.
Pricing as of January 2026, subject to change. Fees depend on the complexity of your prescription and eye shape — your practitioner will confirm which OrthoK system suits you at your initial assessment.
Early-start credit: patients who proceed with OrthoK treatment within 1 week of their initial assessment receive a $50 credit from the $140 assessment fee, applied toward their new treatment package.
Lens replacement is recommended every 12–18 months for optimum eye health, fit and vision. We'll advise when replacement is needed based on clinical assessment.
After your first year of treatment, regular reviews are required — generally every 6 months, unless more frequent visits are needed. Medicare doesn't cover all required tests, so a technology fee applies per visit, covering biometry (to track eye length and myopia progression) and corneal topography (to monitor eye shape). For patients who have not attended regular reviews, additional consultation fees are payable to cover extra tests that may be required due to gaps in their treatment history.
You may be able to claim a rebate for part of your Treatment Plan fees and replacement lenses through your health fund's optical benefits — the amount depends on your level of cover. Health insurance doesn't cover ongoing consultation fees, cleaning solutions or other consumables.
A lens breakage warranty covers one lens per eye within the first 6 months (180 days) of your original lens order, for early mishaps (photographic evidence required). For future replacements without a fitting package, the warranty period is 3 months (90 days).
A non-refundable deposit of $600 is required to design and order your custom-made lenses. The balance is usually settled in full at your lens delivery appointment.
Results can vary between individuals. If treatment is unsuccessful within the first 6 months and you wish to discontinue, 50% of the treatment plan fee can be refunded as credit for other optical items in-clinic.
Clinic booking policy: Saturday appointments require a $25 reservation fee (usable as in-store credit). Late cancellations within 48 hours, and no-shows, incur a $50 fee before a new booking can be made.
